The month of March is a special one for library patrons.
On March 2, the library awarded prizes to participants in February’s Blind Date With a Book event. This is the second year in a row that the library patrons have checked out covered surprise books.

“We finished blind date at the beginning of month with a total of 44 checkouts,” said Francis Recio, library director. “This year we also checked out books to the junior division. They liked doing grown-up stuff, and they enjoyed being able to check out a ‘mystery’ book. I think it’s going to work even for next year.
“The main thing is everybody gets in a rut, and starts checking out a particular author or genre all the time. Blind date has people saying, ‘I never thought I would read him, or ‘I didn’t think I would like this kind of book.’ It opens a new door to a familiar place and shows us that we haven’t explored the possibilities that are here.”
Also celebrated on March 2 was Dr. Seuss Day, a special day for the Muleshoe Elementary book clubs that frequently use to the library.
“They came in with dioramas that incorporated Peeps candy and Dr. Seuss books,” Recio said. “We have a revolving door with the 4th and 5th grade book clubs. They share their art projects, and it has been great. I’d like to thank Mrs. Campos and Mrs. Morales for sharing their kiddos with us.”
During Spring Break from March 13-17 the library will offer Harry Potter movie showings at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Kids are invited to bring snacks and cozy blankets.
On Monday, “The Sorcerer’s Stone” will be shown at 10 a.m. and “The Chamber of Secrets” at 3 p.m. On Tuesday, “The Prisoner of Azkaban” will be presented at both times. On Wednesday, “The Goblet of Fire” will be presented at both times. On Thursday, “The Order of the Phoenix“ will be presented at both times. On Friday, “The Deathly Hallows: Part 1” will be presented at 10 a.m. and “The Deathly Hallows: Part 2” will be presented at 3 p.m.
“It gets the kids out and about and gives them something to do,” Recio said. “We have all the movies available for check out, so even if they miss a certain one or if they want to go back and watch a favorite part of their movie, they’ll be able to do so.”
