A teen from Sudan was killed in a Wednesday morning crash north of Whitharral. 

A freightliner driven by 38-year-old Datyrik Terell Sheppard of Lubbock was traveling north on U.S. Highway 385 in the northbound lane when it drifted into the southbound lane and collided with a Nissan Versa driven by 19-year-old Elaine Maribel Martinez of Sudan, who was traveling south. 

Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a preliminary report from the Texas Department of Public Safety. Sheppard was treated for minor injuries at the scene. 

The crash was reported at 9 a.m. April 17 about 4 miles north of Whitharral on U.S. Highway 385 in Hockley County. The posted speed limit was 75 miles per hour and conditions were clear and dry.
