The Muleshoe Mules 4X400 Relay team just keeps winning.

After a stellar showing at regionals, Nathan Martens, Noah Cantu, Mauricio Herrera and Daniel Sianez took the state contest by storm over the weekend.

With a time of 3:18.39, the Mules pulled a first place win at the UIL 3A State Track Meet.

“The boys talked all season about going to state,” said Coach Aaron Simon. “I told them what they needed to do to get there and they did it. I wasn’t surprised to be at state with the mile relay. They worked hard to be there and they did what they needed to do to win.”

The team kicked off their race and stuck to the middle of the pack until the last leg, Sianez, took over and out-sprinted the rest of the competition, per a spectator video shared to social media a day after the race.

The second place team, Universal City Randolph, came in less than a second behind the Mules with a time of 3:19.23.

While the relay team brought home some gold, one member also brought another medal.

Sianez also participated in the 400 meter run and came in third at the state meet with a time of 48.39.

“I couldn’t be more proud of them and their effort all season long,” Coach Simon said.
