The little press box that could

By Alice Liles

Alice’s note: This story first appeared in my blog The Bright Lights of Muleshoe on November 2, 2018. I always thought it was a fun idea for the old press box to be moved and still serve a purpose related to football. It deserves to have its story told. And here’s that story.

In 1996 when Benny Douglass Stadium had metal seating installed in the stands, the original old press box was torn down and a new two-story one went up. For the next fourteen years that simple press box served the stadium and the football program well, but many games later, it was decided the whole stadium would undergo a face-lift, which included a new, more spacious press box.

The first quarter was all Slaton, as they find the end zone four times. The Mules would have to wait until the second quarter to find some light with their own set of touchdowns for the night.
