Mules Return To State Meet Thursday, May 16, 2013 Junior Baca repeated his trip to the medal stand at the Texas State Track Meet in Austin over the weekend. Baca had qualified for the state meet for the third time in as many years by winning the 800-meter run at the Region I meet. A stomach virus slowed Baca down from his performance last year but did not prevent him from winning his second state medal. He won the bronze medal with a time of one minute 56.84 seconds. The winning time was 1:56.35. “I came to Austin hoping to repeat with a gold medal,” said Junior Baca. “The race got away from me but I am happy to win the bronze medal.” “This is my last meet as a Mule and I want to thank everyone that has watched and supported me through the years. Muleshoe High School Athletic Banquet, Part 2 Thursday, May 16, 2013 Coach Kirk Byrd invited the Power lifters to the stage Tuesday night during the 2013 Athletic Banquet. Coach Byrd thanked Coach Albert Lopez for his help during the season as the team gathered on the stage in Kerry Moore Auditorium. “This year’s team worked extremely hard to get stronger by spending countless hours in the weight room after school,” said Byrd. “This team is very young, consisting of one senior and the rest of team are freshmen and sophomores.” “We did not have a regional qualifier, though many on the team were very close to qualifying. I look forward to the years to come because of how much they improved this season. They competed hard at meets and I want thank them for their efforts.” The Most Improved Lifter award went to Francisco Elizalde. Byrd present the Powerlifting MVP award to Braden Bessire. Full Story
