MISD Students Place In National Sports Medicine Competition
Thursday, June 12, 2014
On May 22, the Muleshoe High School’s Sports Medicine Program participated in the AACI National Sports Medicine Championships and received the results on Thursday, June 5.

“Our students placed fourth overall in the Alert Services (Small School) Division,” MHS Athletic Trainer Josh Woolbright said.

“Along with that, we had three students achieve ‘All-American’ recognition for being in the Top 25 within the division,” he added.

“This was against the best competition in the United States,” Woolbright said.

To qualify for the event, the team and Muleshoe’s program had to be recognized as a Top 10 finisher in Texas’ state competition.

“We were the lone school from the State of Texas to participate, “Woolbright said. “However that didn’t stop us from making it to the awards stand!”

“I am so proud of our students,” he added. “I am even more excited for next year as we take quite a few students back into competition as seniors and juniors.”

The exam portion of the competition consisted of 300 questions in three sections, administered over a two-hour time block at each individual school.

Topics covered included First Aid and CPR, emergency procedures, medical terminology, legal issues, physiology, anatomy, and evaluation techniques for the shoulder girdle and the upper extremities.

The competition’s video practical — which was only administered to Top 10 individual student finalists, included a 30-minute practical exam.

Thursday, May 29, 2014
Three Mules baseball players were chosen to the All-District 2-2A team by the district coaches.

Two other Mules were picked for three positions for the Second Team All-District squad.

“To provide some context, we did not have a single first-team selection last year,” said Mule coach Wes Boatmun.

“We appreciate the hard work of these young men, which is putting our program back on the map of West Texas baseball, and wish to congratulate them on this important accomplishment,” he said.
