Readers are passionate people with intense loyalties to certain authors, genres or writing styles.

Sometimes, though, they want to add a hint of spice to their everyday reading fare.

Blind Date With a Book, Muleshoe Public Library’s annual February event offers them a chance to do just that.

“We wrap the book as you would a present, then label it with a sticker which contains three hints about the book,” said Frances Recio, library assistant. “We also include a barcode that enables us to check the book out to the patrons.”

The patron chooses a book and checks it out. When they get home, they unwrap the package and reveal their “blind date.” Patrons fill out a “rate your date” form on a heart ticket to be included in a drawing.

“This event helps expose our patrons to authors and genres they normally do not check out,” Recio said. “We hope we make new pairings between patrons and authors. It’s also not a bad thing if we have a little fun while participating in this event.”

Muleshoe Area Public Library is located at 322 W. 2nd St.
