Muleshoe displayed some serious offensive firepower in a spirited Week One rivalry victory over Littlefield. The Mules showed the world in Week Two that their performance against Littlefield was not a fluke.
Muleshoe beat down Lamesa 48-6 at Benny Douglas Stadium last Friday and the beating could’ve easily been worse. At halftime alone the Mules were 41-0 and were up by 7 more points in the third quarter.
While the statistical numbers weren’t quite as gaudy as Week One, Muleshoe did what they needed to do to jump out to a big lead and were efficient in every aspect on offense. The efficiency started with quarterback Nathan Martens who only had one incomplete pass in the entire contest. He finished 17-18 passing with 272 yards and two passing touchdowns. A big bulk of those passes went to Mauricio Herrera who caught eight passes for 143 yards and a score.
The run game was efficient as well and was a balanced attack from multiple guys. Sophomore Josue Sigala took the lead, rushing nine times for 120 yards and three rushing touchdowns. Senior Daniel Sianez had six rushes for 47 yards and a touchdown alongside sophomore Matt Hauff who also found the endzone on a one-yard rush.
The donut in the opposing score for the majority of the contest was due to a defense that limited the Tornadoes to just a little over 200 yards of total offense. The Mules shut down the passing game and were able to cause a couple turnovers to help quickly expand the lead.
The Mules will look to increase their win streak to three next week as they travel on the road for the first time this year to Friona (0-2). Kickoff for that game is set for 7 p.m.
