One person died and two others were injured in a crash on Feb. 10 just northeast of Amarillo.

The crash involved a 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe traveling south on SH 136 that crossed into the northbound lane in the path of a 2019 GMC Terrain. The driver of the GMC made an evasive lane change and collided with the Tahoe, according to a preliminary report from the Texas Department of Public Safety. The Tahoe struck the front of the GMC, which slid off the roadway and spun before coming to rest in a ditch facing west.

After the initial impact, the Tahoe left the roadway and spun before hitting the GMC again.

Ericka McCann, 43, of Lubbock, was driving the Tahoe. She was transported to Amarillo Northwest Texas Hospital with serious injuries in critical condition.

The driver of the GMC, 73-year-old Larry Casey of Borger, was also injured and transported to Amarillo Northwest Texas Hospital with serious injuries in critical condition. Julie Casey, 72, of Borger, a passenger in the GMC, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Potter County Justice of the Peace.

All parties involved in the crash were wearing seatbelts.

The crash was reported at 3:35 p.m. in Potter County and is being investigated by DPS. According to the preliminary report, minutes prior to the crash, a report was made of a reckless driver who fled the scene of a hit-and-run at SH 136 and FM 293. Witnesses provided statements identifying the driver of the first vehicle fleeing the scene. No injuries were reported in that particular crash.
