Muleshoe, Littlefield raise over $5,000 in ‘War On 84’ fundraiser
Ma'Rico Holland II August 30, 2023 0 COMMENTSThe War On 84 has been a longstanding rivalry between Littlefield and Muleshoe. For around the past eight years, the athletic booster clubs for Littlefield and Muleshoe have worked together to make a positive impact through the friendly rivalry.
Each year the booster clubs work together to sell ‘War On 84’ t-shirts prior to the game. The money raised is given to a designated family in need. The two booster clubs switch off each year in choosing what family will receive the donation.
“We worked with people through the community who were kind enough to let us know about a family in need and so between the booster clubs, they just decided on one family to help,” Muleshoe Booster Club member Viena Barron told the Journal.
Normally, the recipient of the donation is presented with a check along with a speech from the booster club at halftime of the football game between Littlefield and Muleshoe. This year’s recipients asked to stay anonymous and the booster club respected their wishes. During halftime of the game, the booster club thanked both communities for their support.
According to Barron, money is still being collected each day from those who bought shirts or are just donating to the cause. As of Monday, the booster club had reached about $5,500 dollars with no estimation of what the final number will come out to.
“We thank everyone for their support. We appreciate everybody for buying a ‘War On 84’ shirt or just any donations,” Barron said.
This year the Muleshoe Athletic Booster Club decided the recipient of the award. Next season that duty will switch over to Littlefield’s athletic booster club.
