Three people died and another was injured over the weekend in a two-vehicle crash in Yoakum County.

A 2021 Jeep Compass traveling north on FM 769 approaching the US 82 intersection failed to yield right-of-way to a 2023 Ford Edge traveling southwest on US 82, according to a preliminary Texas Department of Public Safety report. The Jeep pulled into the path of the Ford prompting a collision at the intersection.

The three people traveling in the Jeep were pronounced dead at the scene. They include 20-year-old Gage Amijedio Sandoval of Carlsbad, New Mexico, 40-year-old Crystal Mendoza of Clovis, New Mexico, and 43-year-old Javier Esparza Quinonez of Clovis. Sandoval was identified as the driver.

According to the DPS report, Sandoval and Mendoza were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Quinonez was not.

The occupants of the Ford included 23-year-old Pipper Madalyn Satre, who was transported to Nor-Lea Hospital District in Lovington, New Mexico with serious injuries, and a 3-year-old girl and a 2-year-old girl. The two passengers were not injured. All are from Lovington.

The crash was reported at 3:37 p.m. on Nov. 25 about 15 miles southwest of Plains, according to the DPS report. Conditions were noted as clear and dry.
