The 2024 Muleshoe General and Special Election will take place at City Hall all day Saturday, May 4, according to the Elections Department page on the Bailey County website.

Steve Clifton is running unopposed for the District 1 School Board position, while Rebecca Beall and Bret Bamert will oppose one another for the District 4 position.

School board member Sergio Leal, who has served on the board since 2011, is retiring from the District 4 position, according to Misty Simmons, superintendent’s secretary at MHS.

At their regular meeting on March 18, Muleshoe City Council canceled the city general election as Mayor Colt Ellis was running unopposed and no other positions were open.

Council approved a motion to order a special election to be held May 4, 2024, for the reauthorization of the local sales and use tax in the City of Muleshoe at the rate of one quarter percent (¼%) to continue providing revenue for maintenance and repair of municipal streets.

“The tax expires on the fourth anniversary of the date of this election unless the imposition of the tax is reauthorized,” according to the motion.

City Manager Ramon Sanchez said the special election puts the tax on the ballot, and this is the third time the tax has been up for re-authorization.

No Hospital Board members are up for re-election, according to MAMC Administrator Dennis Fleenor.

Early voting will take place between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. beginning on Monday, April 22, and ending on Tuesday, April 30. Early voting hours are extended from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23, and Tuesday, April 30.

Applications for ballot by mail should be mailed to Misty Simmons, 514 W. Ave. G, Muleshoe, TX. Applications for ballot by mail must be received no later than the close of business on April 23.
