Jr. High Nettes’ Basketball

The Sudan Junior High girls’ basketball teams split their contest last Monday with the Lockney Lady Horns.
The seventh grade team won, 51-20, while the eighth grade girls fell, 31-20.
“The eighth grade girls had some breakdowns in their press break that cost them a close game with Lockney,” Varsity Head Coach Benny Lockhart said.
The Junior High girls will be at Hale Center on Monday with the seventh grade team tipping off at 5 p.m., followed by the eighth grade team at 6 p.m. and the White team at 7 p.m.

Varsity Nettes’ Basketball

The Sudan Nettes’ varsity basketball team used a solid fourth quarter to secure their district victory over the Olton Fillies on Friday, 37-34.
With the victory they improve to 20-4 overall, 6-1 in district play.
“We started the game well, then went ice cold from the field allowing Olton to stay in the game,” Head Coach Benny Lockhart said. “The fourth quarter proved to be too much for Olton, as Sudan came away with a hard fought victory.”
Sudan came out of the gates with a, 9-2, lead to end the first quarter, but Olton stormed back to score 12 points in the second quarter and 17 points in the third quarter, taking a, 31-24 lead into the final quarter of play.
However, a strong outing by the Nettes in the fourth quarter allowed them to secure the narrow victory over the Fillies.
Lexi Bartley finished with a double-double, tallying 10 points, 11 rebounds and two assists, while Hannah Miller tallied 11 points four rebounds and two steals. Delanie Black finished with eight points, six rebounds, four assists, three steals and one block, while Kaegan Edwards chipped in five rebounds, five steals and four points.
Callan Netherland contributed three points and one rebound, while Payton Tolbert finished with five rebounds, four assists, one point and one steal in the contest.
The Nettes had a showdown with Farwell in Sudan on Tuesday. Results were not available at press time. They will be at Bovina on Friday as they play-off picture begins to take shape.
Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
